Company profile

Kurstjens will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2015! In 1965, Joop Kurstjens started Kurstjens Ltd. with his wife Greet. The family company has now been in the technically innovative hands of the 2nd generation—Leo Kurstjens—for a number of years.

In the sixties and seventies, projects were primarily being implemented in the GWW-sector (land, road en hydraulic engineering).  After a number of successful years of constructing discharge pipes to sewage treatment plants (rwzi’s), the company became familiar with the sludge problems on these rwzi’s. Joop has proven to be a real pioneer in this field. He ‘discovered’ the sludge composting process which is a well-known and widely applied procedure in sludge treatment nowadays.  It was the first company in the Benelux to introduce mobile sieve belt presses on the rwzi’s in the eighties with a view to strongly reducing the gigantic volume of sewage sludge.

Following this, the company’s development was mainly centred around specialising in particular areas.

Nowadays Kurstjens dewaters and dries all possible sorts of sludge (from sewage sludge to dredge spoil), executes complex hydraulic dredging and operates a number of (mobile) extractive ‘wet’ soil remediation systemssystem. In Hungary, Kurstjens has also put a sludge digester into operation which was built completely in-house.

Kurstjens is a unique player on the market because it is in a position to implement its specialisations, using its own material, expertise and experience in the working sectors of hydraulical dredging, sludge dewatering, sludge drying, sludge treatment and soil remediation. As such, Kurstjens is able to execute smaller as well as larger projects completely in-house. Kurstjens’ aim is to prove every day that things can be done differently!

How? Kurstjens is committed to doing business in an ‘open and innovative’ manner, in a professional but above all friendly atmosphere. Mutual trust between the client and the contractor is Kurstjens’ main priority. If together we can create this kind of atmosphere, then we know for certain that all parties will be able to look back on the end result, achieved together, with satisfaction.
